The Middle East
Danmission has worked in the Middle East for more than 100 years. From our regional office in Lebanon, we collaborate with local partners in Lebanon, Egypt, and Syria to promote inclusion, dialogue, and sustainable development.

Bridging divides and building social cohesion
The Middle East is home to some of the world’s oldest Christian communities and a diverse Muslim majority. While the region has a rich tradition of coexistence between religious groups, it is also marked by religious tensions and discrimination.
Together with local partners, Danmission supports dialogue initiatives that bring together groups with different church and religious affiliations to build trust and strengthen social cohesion. We also support churches and theological institutions in ensuring that faith speaks into societies marked by hardship and conflict. Churches in the region play a vital role in creating hope and supporting people both spiritually and socially.
We create spaces where people from different religions can meet, listen to each other’s pain and work together to make a difference in their communities. In more than a decade of partnership with Danmission, we have learned so much about transparency and democracy – we are partners, learning together in the process.
– Nayla Tabbara, leader of Danmission's partner organisation Adyan Foundation

Peace-building in war-torn countries
Decades of conflict and instability in Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt have led to widespread distress and deep divisions. Women, young people, and religious minorities in particular face discrimination and marginalisation.
Danmission works with our partners to strengthen democratic participation, build peace and create safe spaces – helping communities reduce violence and extremism.
Fair and sustainable management of natural resources
Across the Middle East, climate change and poor management of natural resources are threatening livelihoods and social stability. Lebanon faces deforestation and growing waste problems, while Egypt’s food production is strained by limited access to water. In Syria, prolonged droughts have undermined agriculture and increased poverty.
Together with our partners, Danmission works for the just and sustainable management of natural resources. We support initiatives that address water scarcity and deforestation and promote environmental awareness.
