Finances

Danmission’s international work is financed by surplus generated by Danmission second-hand shops, institutional donors, foundations and private contributions.

For more than 200 years, Danmission’s work around the world has been supported by our members and other private donors. Individuals, organisations, churches, and companies contribute to Danmission’s work. In 2024, private donations and bequests amounted to approximately DKK 13 million.

Danmission operates 66 second-hand shops, which in 2024 contributed a surplus of DKK 16.3 million to our work.

Since 2018, Danmission has had a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This agreement secures an annual contribution to support our international work. In addition, Danmission regularly receives grants for its programmes from, among others, the EU and other institutional donors.

We use funds responsibly

With an annual turnover of around DKK 100 million, we ensure that funds are used responsibly and effectively. Resources that are not used directly for our international or national programmes are invested in strengthening our capacity – for example through running our second-hand shops and fundraising activities, which generate significant additional income.

Each year, between DKK 40–45 million is spent on our international programmes, and DKK 0.5–3 million on activities and projects in Denmark. Administrative costs are kept consistently low, averaging around five percent of our total income.

How our work is funded

Danmission’s international work is mainly financed by support from private donors, foundations, and the surplus generated by Danmission second-hand shops.
