About us

Danmission is one of Denmark’s oldest and largest faith-based organisations. For more than 200 years, we have worked to build peace, promote justice, and support sustainable development across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Denmark.

Our History

Danmission is a Danish faith-based organisation working to promote peace and democracy and to protect nature and the climate in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Denmark.

Founded more than 200 years ago, Danmission is one of Denmark’s oldest and largest development and mission organisations. Our work is rooted in the Christian faith and in the belief that dialogue between people can create a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world.

Together with committed volunteers, we run 66 second-hand shops, and our work is financed through income from these shops as well as contributions from private donors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the EU, and other institutional donors.

Our Global Work

At the core of our identity are faith and dialogue: faith as a source of hope and action, and dialogue as a way of life and a key to change across religious and cultural divides.

We work towards two global impact goals:

  • Peace & Democracy – protecting communities affected by conflict and discrimination, strengthening resilience, and enabling inclusive decision-making.
  • Nature & Climate – preventing and mitigating harm to vital ecosystems, and supporting communities to recover, build resilience, and govern natural resources sustainably and peacefully.

Our work is guided by a Human Rights-Based Approach that centres dignity, equality, and non-discrimination. Our approach is rooted in equitable partnerships with churches, faith actors, and civil society. By connecting local voices with national, regional, and global processes, we ensure that grassroots perspectives shape durable solutions.

Our work is founded upon our Christian worldview, and our approach is guided by the belief that there is hope, there is forgiveness, and there is life.

We believe that we are created to live in community, in connection with nature and in harmony with one another across borders and nationalities, and that the injustice of the world must be met by deeds of love.

We believe that dialogue between people with different views and religions is an important foundation for peaceful, just, and sustainable coexistence. Our conviction is that churches, faith-based organisations, and religious actors are important for creating lasting social change.

We work to promote a peaceful, just, and sustainable world in which people can freely practise their beliefs and faith.

We meet other faith communities with openness; faith binds us together and commits us to understanding and cooperation.

Danmission is a democratic organisation, and the Board of Representatives is our highest authority. Public engagement is an important prerequisite for Danmission’s work both at home and around the world.

Central to our work are the many volunteers who contribute their time and energy to our secondhand shops, participate in the organisation’s democratic governance, or otherwise take on vital tasks.

We are rooted in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark, and we are also a part of the global Christian fellowship.
